Who's in the
Shepherd's Hut?

David and Lucy

We are David and Lucy, two ordinary people who fell in love and married 22 years ago. We didn’t really have a plan, other than that one day, we wanted to have children.
We didn’t know how to be married, both of us being single for a significant amount to time and the first challenge was to merge our two very independent lives into one. It was a rather messy and challenging process, each of us learning how to put the other first, and we are still learning this, after all these years.

Children

Next came our 3 children, two girls in quick succession, then our son, all a blessing. We didn’t know how to parent, neither of us having parented before. We thought we knew, whilst watching everyone else around us, but it’s funny how being a parent humbles you pretty quickly!

Fostering

Then we became foster parents, mostly to teenagers, some from other countries and some locally. We didn’t know how to be foster parents and this time, we didn’t even think we knew! We felt out of our depth immediately.

The Ups and Downs

Yet, through it all, we have grown, laughed, cried, sometimes on our own, sometimes with others and sometimes together. It’s an on going adventure which gets better and better, especially through the teenage years.

Vision

Our vision is to walk alongside others in their family life, sharing the secrets of what we have learnt along the way, but also journeying with others to glean wisdom from them.
